Did you know that we spend one-third of our lives sleeping?1
What that really means is we spend at least one-third of our lives in our bedroom—so it should be a space you really, really love. If your bedroom doesn’t live up to your standards, we have five easy fixes that will help you revitalize the space.
Pile on the bedding
Plush fabrics make your bed look, and feel, more comfortable. To achieve dreamy comfort in your bedroom, add layers of bedding, and don’t skimp on the thread count.
Want to learn more about how to create the coziest bed imaginable? Our stores are offering a free event on March 14th that will include presentations at 11AM and 3:30 PM on “How to Dress the Perfect Bed. Call your local Country Curtains store for more details.
Add some mood lighting
Lighting sets the mood – and not just the romantic kind. When you add light to all corners of your room, it makes the space feel bigger and more balanced. Variances in lighting can help you wind down at the end of the day or ease your way into the morning, so try adding a dimmer to an overhead fixture.
If you have a seating area in your bedroom, add a floor lamp next to it. On either side of the bed and on your dresser, add table lamps. By creating various lighting options, you will always be able to create the perfect balance of light.
Make it personal
Photos and artwork take a room from bland and impersonal to uniquely yours.
Create a gallery wall of your favorite prints or family photos. If you hang a collection of prints, stay within the same color palette to create a cohesive look. If adding a gallery of family photos, consider hanging only black and white photos to unite a variety of images (we love this photo gallery wall by blogger Emily A. Clark).
Update the color
The color of your walls is a matter of personal choice, but pick your palette based on the overall feeling you want the room to achieve.
Neutral shades create a peaceful and calming sanctuary, while bolder tones are energizing and invigorating. If you want a bit of both, you can paint the walls neutral and add a splash of color with throw pillows, blankets and window treatments.
The best way to start is by finding examples of bedrooms you love. Benjamin Moore has great bedroom color palette examples that make us want to pick up a paintbrush.
Cover it up
Proper window treatments in your bedroom can ensure a good night of sleep by blocking unwanted light and keeping out the cold. The privacy they provide is also important, and a great pair of curtains can help a room feel more complete.
